2005

In order to use a $1 million federal grant to build a new bridge, county commissioners hired a team of archaeological consultants to sift through dirt near an aging, single-lane bridge on County Road 850E near Clifty Creek, to determine if any historically important artifacts were present.

1990

Columbus officials, faced with finding a solution for a juvenile detention crisis, were told by the state that juvenile offenders must be totally separated from adult prisoners, and therefore the county’s new $6 million jail could not be used as a lockup for juveniles.

1965

Small tornadoes played hopscotch in a wide area around Columbus, but there were no official sightings.
