MALE

Mitchell Burton, Columbus North junior football player

Burton ran for 219 yards and four touchdowns Friday to lead the Bull Dogs to a 54-7 season-opening win at Franklin.

His performance last week:

“I felt pretty good. I thought the team did pretty well, and hopefully we can carry it on into (this) week.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“I just take ice baths every day and work out with the team and try to study film as much as I can.”

“I’d probably go to Riviera Maya, Mexico, because we went there over the summer and it was pretty fun.”

FEMALE

Alana Owen, Hauser sophomore volleyball player

Owen recorded a combined 50 assists in four matches Saturday to help lead the Jets to four consecutive wins and the Henryville Invitational championship. Earlier in the week, she led Hauser with 19 assists and four aces in a three-set win at Jac-Cen-Del and led the Jets with 21 assists and three aces in a season-opening three-set win against Jennings County.

Her performance last week:

“I’m proud of how I did and excited.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“I normally go with my friend Sydney (Schoen) and we go set (volleyballs) with each other for about 10 or 15 minutes to warm up our hands for the game.”

“My dad (Keith Owen) because he always tells me to do my best and work hard, and he always works hard to support me so I can play volleyball.”

“To always work hard and do my best no matter what happens, to always stay positive and keep my head up.”

“I want to beat the record for most assists at Hauser and try to get back to the final four and hopefully go to state this year.”

“Probably Fiji because I’ve heard it’s a really nice place, and it’s always sunny and it’s pretty there.”
