Olympians sweep New Albany

The Columbus East volleyball team ran its winning streak to three with a 25-19, 25-23, 25-14 win against New Albany.

Cortney VanLiew led the Olympians (11-2) with 13 kills and 18 digs. Kendal Williams recorded 34 assists, Kortney Thalls and Brooke Statler each had two blocks and AJ Pollert served four aces.

Bailey Western added 10 kills. Pollert notched 14 digs, and Brooke Banister had three aces.

Braves down Bull Dogs

Columbus North won the first set, but Class 3A No. 7 Brownstown Central rallied for an 18-25, 25-17, 25-9, 25-18 win.

Imani Guy led the Bull Dogs (6-10) with eight kills and five blocks. Hannah Weaver also pounded eight kills, while Hannah McKinney recorded 17 assists, Maliah Howard-Bass had 12 digs and Avery Wendel served one ace.

Howard-Bass also had seven kills and 15 assists. Wendel added two blocks, and Mackenzie Rooks notched 11 digs.

Jets sweep Cougars

GREENSBURG — Hauser remained unbeaten with a 25-11, 25-8, 25-10 Mid-Hoosier Conference win at South Decatur.

Sydney Schoen led the Jets (14-0, 5-0) with 13 digs and 10 aces. Brea Metz pounded 17 kills, Alana Owen recorded 24 assists and Tannyr Davis had two blocks.

Schoen also had six kills and six assists. Lucie Lortz added four kills, Danielle Giles recorded two assists and five digs Maranda Knight and Taylor Henderson each had a block, Sarah Tedder notched four digs and Owen served four aces.

Crusaders fall in five

WHITESTOWN — Columbus Christian won the first two sets, but Traders Point Christian rallied for a 23-25, 25-27, 25-18, 25-19, 15-9 win.

Hannah Lorimor led the Crusaders (3-4) with 10 kills and a block. Lauren Hunnicutt also had a block, while Hannah Stair notched 13 digs and Mayah Schundelemeier served eight aces.

Savannah Spurgeon added eight kills, and Lauren Hunnicutt had three kills. Michaela Schundelmeier recorded four digs and Stair served two aces.

Lancers edge Eagles

NASHVILLE — Brown County rallied from a two-set deficit to tie the match, but Edinburgh regrouped in the fifth for a 25-20, 25-14, 25-27, 23-25, 15-8 win.

The Lancers improved to 15-5.

Owls sweep Artesians

SEYMOUR — Seymour had little trouble in rolling to a 25-18, 25-10, 25-14 win against Martinsville.

Emilee Pollman pounded nine kills, and Mikayla Fee served three aces to lead the Owls (7-9). Chandler Clark added six kills, and Pollman and Lauren Fleetwood each had two aces.

Lutheran tops Trinity

SEYMOUR — Class A No. 9 Trinity Lutheran won the first set, but Class A No. 4 Indianapolis Lutheran rallied for an 18-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-11 win.

Haylee Barker led the Cougars with eight kills and four aces. Hailley Peters also had eight kills, and Hayley Carter recorded 21 digs.

Abby Schult pounded three kills. Haylee Barker added eight digs.

Olympians blank Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Levi Copas, Sam Newell and Andrew Thomasson all scored two goals in Columbus East’s 7-0 Hoosier Hills Conference win at Jennings County.

Ramiro Nieto also scored for the Olympians (6-2-1, 4-0) Thomasson, Newell, Copas, Landon Miles and Dustin Rodgers had assists.

East’s Andy Davidson recorded one save.

Bull Dogs nip Falcons

Columbus North used an early goal to post a 1-0 Conference Indiana East Division win against Perry Meridian.

Nick Beals scored off an assist from Sam Snider in seventh minute for the Bull Dogs (4-3-3, 2-1). North outshot the Falcons 5-4.

Ty Bentham played the first half in goal and recorded one save. Preston Grimes played the second half and posted three saves.

Crusaders, Jets tie

HOPE — Neither Columbus Christian nor Hauser could find the net in a 0-0 tie.

The Jets outshot the Crusaders (1-3-2) 20-6.

Columbus Christian’s Evan Reed recorded 18 saves, and Hauser’s Pete Trotter posted four saves.

Eagles, Cougars tie

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran’s Bobby Tabeling scored off an assist from AJ Goecker in the 70th minute to forge a 2-2 tie against Brown County.

Matt Redmond scored off an assist from Will Ryan, and Curtis Higgins connected off a cross by Matt Redmond for the Eagles’ goals. The Cougars’ first goal came when Cole Galyen headed in a corner kick from Chris Rust.

Brown County outshot Trinity (3-5-2) 15-12. Luke Onken recorded 12 saves for the Cougars, and Noah Seidle posted four saves for the Eagles.

Olympians blank Owls

SEYMOUR — Columbus East lost only 16 games in the five matches in rolling to a 5-0 win at Seymour.

Alex Galle beat Alex Berry 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles; JoJo Woolwine downed Ty McCory 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Neeraj Pandita topped Adam Berry 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (9-2). Matt Furnish and Sammy Woolwine beat Grant Handloser and Josiah Rudge 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles; and Daniel Kuhlman and Austin Guse downed Sam Voss and Hao Li 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Pirates sweep Jets

GREENSBURG — Greensburg won all five matches in straight sets in handing Hauser a 5-0 loss.

Will Rose fell to Kyle Sellers 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles; Avery Talent lost to David Lawrence 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Sam Meek fell to Dakota Westerkamm 6-3, 6-4 for the Jets (4-7). Luke Meier and Noah Miller lost to Keegan McCullough and Nathan Emsweller 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles; and Jacob Johnson and Alex Gross fell to Trevor Foster and Logan Smith 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Lancers down Saints

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh won four matches in straight sets in a 4-1 win against Indianapolis Lutheran.

Kyle Pendleton beat Justin Ventura 7-6 (5), 6-2 at No. 1 singles; Colton Henderson downed Sean Scanlan 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles; Kinser Bryant and Anthony Webber rolled Carson Thomas and Andy Fitzpatrick 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles and Dalton Bieker and Parker Bryant topped Hogan Scanlan and Zack Murphy 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. Gavin Hancock fell to Ted Dietz 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Rebels top Olympians

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus East couldn’t find the net in a 3-0 loss at Class 2A No. 19 Roncalli.

Bryn Eudy recorded 12 saves for the Olympians (5-2-4). Brooke Hamblen played the final eight minutes in goal and posted two saves.

Cubs blank Eagles

GREENCASTLE — Greencastle scored three times in the first half and went on to post a 5-0 Western Indiana Conference win against Brown County.

Rachel Smith played 68 minutes in goal for the Eagles and recorded 11 saves. Bailee Robinson played 12 minutes in goal and posted one save.

South Decatur wins

GREENSBURG — Lydia Wolterman won medalist honors with a 40, and South Decatur closed the regular season with a 183-200 win against South Ripley at Wyaloosing Creek.

Shelby Vannatta carded a 45 for the Cougars. Annie Gant added a 47, Olivia Clarkson shot 50, Olivia Fry had a 52 and Kyley Caperoon finished with a 60.

Lancers win tri match

FRANKLIN — Mariah Weddle won medalist honors with a 46 to lead Edinburgh to a tri match win at Deer Valley. The Lancers carded a 199 to 218 for North Decatur and 222 for Southwestern (Shelby).

Vanessa McManaway added a 48 for the Lancers. Makenzie Hill had a 50, Emma Westerfeld and Kierra Richards each shot 55 and Savannah Bippus had a 56.

Trinity takes second

SCOTTSBURG — Trinity Lutheran finished second in a tri match at Westwood. Host Scottsburg won with a 204 to 210 for the Cougars and 263 for Clarksville.

Demi Oakes led Trinity with a 48. Macy Taylor added a 52, Morgan Gabbard shot 54 and Jessica Fleener had a 56.
