Cougars roll to season-opening win

GREENSBURG — The South Decatur girls basketball team opened the season Tuesday night with a 55-22 rout of Milan.

The Cougars led 31-13 at halftime and cruised from there.

“Defensively, I thought we hustled, and really, once we made our substitutions off the bench, we didn’t miss a beat,” South Decatur coach Kelly Fox said. “We kept on going.”

Katelyn Owens led the Cougars with 16 points and nine rebounds. Taylor Best scored 13 points, while Stacy Fox had 10 points and Brooke Helms added eight points, nine rebounds and four assists.

South Decatur overcame 15-of-34 shooting from the free-throw line. The Indians were worse, though, going 6 of 19.

“We struggled a little bit from the foul line, but we ran the ball and worked as a team pretty darn well,” Kelly Fox said.
