Man hits house, lands in jail

A local man was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he was accused of driving his pickup truck into a house in the 8000 block of South State Road 58.

Jacob Meredith, 22, 4370 N. County Road 200W, was released from the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond after the incident at 12:45 a.m. Friday, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies Sgt. Gary Knoef and Brent Worman were sent to the crash scene and said the pickup truck Meredith was driving had gone off the roadway, traveled about 400 feet in a ditch, broke an electrical pole, hit a culvert and then stopped after hitting the house.

No one was at home at the time of the crash, deputies said. Meredith was not injured, deputies said. The sheriff department did not release his blood-alcohol content test results.

Power was disrupted for a few hours in the area before being restored.

Southwest Fire Department assisted at the scene with security and cleanup.
