MALE

Chase McQueen, Columbus North senior swimmer

McQueen finished 11th in the 200-yard individual medley and 18th in the 100 freestyle in last weekend’s state finals. He also anchored the Bull Frogs’ ninth-place 200 freestyle relay and 14th-place 400 freestyle relay teams.

His performance last week:

“I was definitely satisfied with my performance. I thought the team did really well, and I thought I contributed to that as best I could.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“Before races I try to seclude myself from everything and just try to get my mind focused and ready to give my best effort.”

“Water. I drink water all the time.”

FEMALE

Katrina May, Columbus North senior gymnast

May won the vault and floor and finished fourth on the bars on her way to capturing the all-around title Saturday to lead the Bull Dogs to the Columbus East Sectional championship.

Her performance last week:

“I think we had a pretty strong performance overall, but there’s definitely room for improvement. Going into regional head held high with a little more confidence this time.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“Saturday meets, we don’t really do anything special, but we go out to get a smoothie or something on a weekday.”

“It’s really important to have fun with the sport. If you’re not laughing and having fun with practice, then it’s not really worth being here.”

“I’m hoping to break the (team) school record, and we are looking for a state title this year.”

“Paris. I’ve always wanted to go to Europe, and that just seems like the big tourist destination.”
