Mrs. Shirley A. Abbott, of Zephyrhills, Florida, passed away on April 18, 2016, peacefully of natural causes at Florida Hospital Tampa, at the age of 80.
Shirley was born in Medora, Indiana, on Aug. 9, 1935, to Melvin and Flora Childers and is survived by her step-brother, Clifford Lee of Columbus and a sister, Carolyn Gray, who resides in Florida.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 37 years, James I. Abbott of Zephryhills, formerly of Greensburg. Also surviving are Jim and Shirley’s grandsons, Jonathan and Joshua Abbott of Columbus; daughter, Jennifer (Abner) Gossett of Temperance, Michigan, along with her husband Kevin and son Samuel, who is Shirley’s third grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Flora Lee; brother, Don Childers; step-brother, Bill Lee; sister, Barbara Underwood; her son, Gary Abner who passed away in 2004; and her step-son, James (Tony) Abbott, who passed in 2010.
Shirley will be loved and missed by all lucky enough to have known her.
Memorial contributions may be made in her honor at Turning Point Domestic Violence, Horizon House or Big Brothers Big Sisters through the funeral home.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Calling will be from noon until time of service Saturday.
