James “Jim” Angel

COLUMBUS

James William Angel passed away peacefully on April 26, 2024 in Columbus, Indiana, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was the son of Rev. James F. and Della A. (Collinsworth) Angel. Jim was born on October 10, 1946 in Liggett, Harlan County, Kentucky.

He is survived by his soulmate and wife of almost 55 years, Patricia A. Angel, and his daughter and family, Laura, Luis and Ciella Angel-Lalanne. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Jo and Robert Everett; his sister-in-law Lynn Schoen (his brother-in-law and dear friend Rick Schoen passed away in 2016); nieces Tina Brock, Tish Reed and Lisa Everett; nephew Tim Bailey (his nephew Rick Everett passed away in 2015); and great-nephews and great-nieces Justin and Jeremy Everett, Nick, Maddison and Emmagrace Brock, Naomi and Ruby Bailey, and Caleb, Aidan and Scarlett Reed.

Jim graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1968 with a B.S. in Industrial Technology. He was a proud veteran, a distinguished military graduate and 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service in Vietnam. An ASQC Certified Quality Engineer, Jim began his career in the automotive industry at American Motors Corporation, where he worked for 14 years. He moved to Columbus when he joined Arvin Industries in 1988, where he ultimately served as Vice President Total Qualify for North American Automotive, and then Executive Director, World-Wide Total Quality. He was very pleased to be able to end his career at Cummins, from which he retired in 2011.

Jim loved spending time with his family, golf, travel, music, his drum set, and making people laugh (usually with stories about himself).

The family gives special thanks to the loving caregivers at Silver Oaks Legacy and Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

In keeping with the family’s request, cremation will take place and a visitation only celebrating Jim’s life will be held at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home at 1029 Washington Street, Columbus, Indiana, on Tuesday, April 30, between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard at 1:00 p.m. There will be no service following visitation.
