Two arrested after reportedly sleeping on a sidewalk

Columbus police arrested two people after they were reportedly sleeping on a sidewalk in the 3500 block of Nicholas Lane.

Officers Branch Schrader and Michael Butler were sent to the location at about 3:20 a.m. Saturday where they found Eric A. Burton, 33, Columbus and Kimberly R. Kirk, 42, Paris Crossing, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The officers determined both had warrants for their arrest, Harris said. Officers later found four syringes and other drug paraphernalia inside a bag that belonged to Kirk, Harris said.

Burton was arrested on a Johnson County warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of theft, Harris said. He was released from jail to Johnson County authorities on the out-of-county warrant, jail officials said.

Kirk was arrested on two Johnson County warrants for failure to appear on original charges of theft, a Bartholomew County warrant for shoplifting, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a legend drug injection device, Harris said. She is being held in jail without bond, jail officials said.
