Local man arrested on alcohol-related charges after crash

Columbus police arrested a local man on alcohol-related charges after a two-vehicle crash on Jonathan Moore Pike.

Officers were sent to the 2300 block of West Jonathan Moore Pike at about 6:30 p.m. Friday about a car rear-ending another vehicle, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage while speaking with Alex White, 26, 10172 S. Jonesville Road, who told officers he was eating while driving when he crashed into the vehicle in front of him, Harris said.

White failed several field sobriety tests and later provided a breath sample of .141 percent, Harris said.

He was arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a breath-alcohol level between .08 percent and .15 percent, Harris said.

White was released from the Bartholomew County Jail after posting $7,500 bond, jail officials said.
