The U.S. Small Business Administration announced Jackson, Bartholomew, Brown and Jennings counties had been declared disaster areas as a result of severe storms and tornadoes earlier in the month. Homeowners and renters in those counties were eligible for disaster-loan assistance.

1991

Tinder-dry conditions threatened to rob Columbus residents of a public July Fourth fireworks display for the third time in four years even after some areas of the city and county got a surprise soaking of 2 inches from a series of unexpected and unforecast thunderstorms that rumbled through the area.

1966

Columbus Chamber of Commerce presented the city’s first Sportsman of the Year award to Bobby Wissman of California Street. He was a longtime volunteer worker with youth athletics programs in Columbus.
