Michael Anthony Spencer, 64, of Columbus, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016.

Michael was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, August 11, 1951, to Earl Gordon Spencer and Arlene Martinet Spencer. He married Nydia A. Carias on January 31, 1981.

Michael moved from Los Angeles to Indiana in 1982 and had been a resident of Columbus since 1989. He was the definition of a hard worker and was a passionate math teacher at Ivy Tech. He was very active in his church and was a Grand Knight on the El Sereno Council of the Knights of Columbus in California in 1980. Michael truly enjoyed spending time with family, especially with his grandbaby.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Andy Syberg officiating. Calling will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2016, and one hour prior to the service Monday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. A Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Nydia A. Spencer; mother, Arlene Martinet Spencer; a son, Michael John (Graciela) Spencer of Columbus, Indiana; a brother, Andrew Spencer; sisters, Patricia (Rick) Halliday of La Crescenta, California, and Nora (Dave) John of Rohnert Park, California; a grandchild, Aaron Michael Spencer; sister-in-law, Eva (Ricardo) Maldonado; brothers-in-law, Andres (Ana) Espinoza and Paulino (Lupita) Espinoza; a cousin, Lupita Vasquez; nephews, Ricky, Juan and Andres Maldonado, Kevin and Doug John, Paulo and Nacho Espinoza; a niece, Catherine John; and an adopted son, Michael (Michelle) Eusebio.

Michael was preceded in death by his father.
