Brian’s picks – July 14

I’ve seen a lot of children react to kidscommons children’s museum activities. But I’ve never seen a kid show boredom or lack of interest at the venue with the World’s Largest Toilet. So you’ve got to figure that Messy Mondays, with sensory-activity learning and fun, create neat fun of some kind. The special days are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays and July 25 at the facility, 309 Washington St. in Columbus. Information: 812-378- 3046 or kidscommons.org.

Here’s hoping Mother Nature shows herself to be a little less hot than the more-than-capable lineup for the next installment of the free Donner Park Variety Show at 7 p.m. July 16 at Donner Park shelter house near 19th and Lafayette streets in Columbus. Toasty temperatures limited last month’s Donner show crowd a bit, according to organizers. Maybe an early evening breeze as cool as the Gary Kincer Band, concert headliner, can help. Also in the lineup is the Bill Daeger Family, offering traditional songs and ballads and the Long Family Singers, presenting patriotic and country gospel tunes in sweet harmony.
