Vina M. “Grandma” Sallee, 86, of Columbus, died Monday, August 22, 2016, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
She had previously been employed at Holiday Inn, Otter Creek Golf Course, Elizabethtown Grocery Store and the Hope Community Church of God where she was also a member. She helped manage Sallee Auto Sales and she was a caregiver for many. Her babysitting profession was more of a hobby because of her love and compassion for all children. That’s why all children knew her as “Grandma”.
She loved to sew.
Vina’s funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Pastor Gerald Hancock officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday. Burial will be at Mineral Springs Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be donated to Hope Church of God through the funeral home.
Born Sept. 12, 1929, in Shelbyville, Indiana, Vina was the daughter of Floyd and Flossie Mae Holt Corbin. She married William R. Sallee April 6, 1946, and he preceded her in death Aug. 1, 2001.
Survivors include children, David (Sally) Sallee of Wilton, Iowa, William “Pop Corn” (Wanda) Sallee of Columbus, Indiana, and Daniel Sallee of Elizabethtown, Indiana; grandchildren, Raymond (Trish) Sallee of Scipio, Indiana, Tim (Patti) Sallee of Wapello, Iowa, Sarah (Larry) Dickerson of Washington, Iowa, Tamy Sallee of Whiteland, Indiana, Thomas (Michelle) Sallee of Elizabethtown, Indiana; Cindy (Ross) Smith of Columbus, Indiana, April (Jerry) Perry of Columbus, Indiana, Shannon (Ashley) Davis of Columbus, Indiana, Robert (Cassandra) Sallee of Columbus, Indiana, Andrew Sallee of Medora, Indiana, Danielle Sallee of Greensburg, Indiana, Bailey England and Derick England; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Brad, Levi, Joshua, Nathaniel and Nolyn Sallee, Tyler, Samantha and Jacob York, Ashley Kelley, Brittany Richers, Michael Donaldson, Jordon Rolfs, Elijah and Isaiah Smith, Dustin, Dakotah and Kendra Pastrick, Hunter Perry, Ethan and Tristan Davis; great-great-grandchildren, Ryder, Mavix, Mauzlyn, Noah, Illiana and Anthony; siblings, Marie “Purney”, Dale, Charles, Donald and Richard Corbin and Helen Anderson.
Vina was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters.
