Dona Mary Sawyer

FRANKLIN, INDIANA

Dona Mary Sawyer passed away peacefully on the 7th of May, 2024, in Franklin, Indiana. Born on March 2nd, 1940, in Columbus, Indiana, Dona lived a life characterized by warmth, community involvement, and unwavering dedication to her loved ones.

Dona was the beloved wife for 63 years of Larry Wayne Sawyer, whom she married May 28, 1960 and a nurturing mother to her daughter, Cindy (Kenny) Lowhorn, and her late son, Larry Brian Sawyer. Her loving presence will also be missed by her daughter-in-law, Tina Sawyer, and sister, Doris (David) Childers. Dona’s grace and influence will live on through her cherished grandchildren−Jacquie (Brandon) Bryant, Kenneth Lowhorn, Heather (Todd) Ferguson, and Cole (Heather) Sawyer−as well as her adored great-grandchildren Cherish, Bryce, Allison, Gavin, Garrett, Bea, Grayson, Tyler James, Chloe, Olivia, and Brileigh. Dona was preceded in death by her father, Clyde Followell, mother, Minnie Stater Mobley and a sister, Della Holley.

After graduating from Columbus High School in 1958, Dona built a career, eventually retiring from Lear Corporation. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly through her years as an Avon Representative. Dona’s interests reflected her sociable and caring nature; she was a member of the Whiteland Church of Christ and enjoyed the camaraderie of the Red Hat Society. Known for her friendliness and selfless spirit, she found joy in the simple pleasure of camping, among other outdoor activities.

The final farewell to Dona Mary Sawyer will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, with Ronnie Hewitt officiating. A commitment to her memory will continue as she is laid to rest in Brown County Memorial Park Cemetery, Nashville, Indiana.

Friends and extended family members are invited to pay their respects during visitation hours on Friday, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. As an homage to her caring and charitable nature, memorial contributions may be directed to the Whiteland Church of Christ or the Parkinson’s Foundation in honor of Dona’s life.
