Theft attempt ends in arrest

Columbus police made one arrest after an attempted bicycle theft.

Kwayshar M. Booker, 22, 1026 Phoenix Court, Columbus, was arrested on a preliminary charge of battery with bodily injury after the incident at 9:55 a.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of Central Avenue, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Columbus police officers sent to the incident said they saw the bike rider jump into the back of a moving truck to avoid two men chasing him, Harris said.

A second individual fled on foot and was not found, Harris said.

The victim told officers he was riding his bicycle when Booker knocked him off and started to fight him. The victim said he was punched by both men and jumped into the truck to try to escape.

Booker is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $3,500 bond, jail officials said.
