Today is the deadline to register for the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour event Saturday and Sept. 4 at Indiana University Golf Course.

Indiana Gold Bandits hosting fastpitch tryouts

The Indiana Gold Bandits fastpitch softball team is conducting tryouts from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the Greensburg youth diamonds by the city park.

The team is looking for pitchers, catchers and infielders. Those trying out should arrive by 12:30 p.m.

Renowned author to give presentation at North

Joshua Medcalf, founder and CEO of Train to be Clutch and author of four books on leadership training, generational dynamics and performance organizational psychology, will speak to Columbus North High School athletes and others from the school and community at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the school’s auditorium.

Medcalf’s clients include Major League Baseball players, college sports teams and national-level business leaders. Tuesday’s presentation, which is open to the public, is one stop on his four-month speaking tour across the country.

The first 250 North athletes who arrive at the event will receive a complimentary copy of Medcalf’s book, “Chop Wood Carry Water: How to Fall in Love with the Process of Becoming Great.”

Labor Day Sting coming to county fairgrounds

Hoosier Pro Wrestling will return to Columbus on Saturday with the Labor Day Sting.

Action will begin at 7:45 at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds Family Arts Building. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Admission is $12, with kids 4 and younger free.

East coaches to host basketball camp at FFY

Former Columbus East girls basketball coach Mel Good and current East assistant Willie Humes will host the Good & Humes Basketball Camp Sept. 6 to 9 at Foundation For Youth for ages 5 through 8.

Small Ball Bash tourney on tap at Lincoln Park

The Cole Weddle Scholarship Small Ball Bash will be Sept. 24 and 25 at Lincoln Park. The coed softball tourney will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 24, and the men’s tourney will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 25.

Entry fee is $150 per team, with three games guaranteed. The signup deadline is noon Sept. 21.
