Bull Dogs in 3rd place at state golf tourney

CARMEL — The Columbus North girls golfers are in prime position to make a run at a state championship after Friday’s rain-shortened first round.

The fourth-ranked Bull Dogs are in third place at 23-over-par, just two shots behind No. 1 Westfield and No. 2 Evansville North, who are tied for the lead at 21-over. All three teams were through 15 holes when play was suspended because of darkness.

Play is scheduled to resume at 8:30 a.m. today at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. The second and final round will start following the completion of the first round.

North senior Holly Anderson and junior Danbi Kim are both 3-over-par through 15. Junior Julia Luken is 6-over, while sophomore Alex Munnicha is 11-over and senior Aubrey Smith is 17-over.

Brown County senior Emma Bawinkel, who qualified for state as an individual, is 13-over through 15 holes. Westfield’s Cailyn Henderson is the individual leader at 1-under, also through 15.

Play was delayed twice for a total of 3 hours, 2 minutes because of rain.
