Meredith Nichter

Meredith E. “Nick” Nichter, 88, of Columbus, passed from this life at 10:14 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2016, at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

Mr. Nichter was the owner of Meredith Nichter Construction.

He was a member of New Hope Christian Church and a former member of the Columbus Corvette Club.

He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed working in his yard.

Mr. Nichter was a Marine Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with John Sichting officiating. Family and friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to time of service Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Christian Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Mr. Nichter was born June 1, 1928, in Marysville, Indiana, to Lawrence and Esther Hunt Nichter.

He married Vivian M. King Oct. 18, 1947.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years; his children, Jeanna Coles of Columbus, Elise (Ron) Foster of Brownsburg and Greg (Karen) Nichter of Columbus; grandchildren, Jennifer (Tim) Nash of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jared (Shirley) Foster of Greenwood, Ethan Nichter and Emily (Dylan Abney) Nichter both of Columbus; four great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Jean) Nichter of Seymour and Roger (Nancy) Nichter of Columbus; sisters, Helen (Ben) Beasley of Columbus, Phyllis Hoffman of New Palestine and Carol White of Queensville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Vincent Coles; brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Carlis Nichter; and sisters, Dorothy Hatton and Wilma Smith.
