North falls to Franklin

FRANKLIN — Columbus North came close in the first two sets, but couldn’t pull them out, and Franklin claimed a 26-24, 26-24, 25-17 victory.

Maliah Howard-Bass pounded seven kills, Mady Johnson recorded 19 assists, Imani Guy had four blocks, Mackenzie Rooks notched nine digs and Agustina Fainguersch served three aces to lead the Bull Dogs.

Guy also pounded six kills, while Fainguersch added five kills, a block and eight digs and Hannah Weaver tallied three kills, a block and five digs. Howard-Bass had three blocks, and Maddy Sebahar contributed eight digs.

“We came out tough against Franklin,” North coach Caitlin Greiner said. “We had good leads in both Games 1 and 2, but ultimately unforced errors and allowing too many runs resulted in losses. We will continue to work on mental toughness as we head into tournament time.”

Cougars ground Jets

HOPE — Class A No. 6 Hauser won the third set, but 4A Greenfield-Central recovered to claim a 25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 25-20 victory.

Brea Metz pounded 16 kills, Alana Owen recorded 30 assists, Tannyr Davis had four blocks, Sydney Schoen notched 18 digs and Tedder served three aces to lead the Jets (23-3).

Schoen also tallied 10 kills, a block and two aces, and Alana Owen had a block and 15 digs. Madie Sherman pounded five kills, Hailey Lange and Megan Swinford each had one assist and Tedder contributed 16 digs.

GIRLS SOCCER

Panthers move into final

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County moved into its first sectional final since 2008 with a 3-0 shutout of Greensburg in the semifinals of the Jennings Sectional.

Lexi Brown scored two goals, and Olivia Vanosdol added the other goal for the Panthers (8-7-2). Kilee Littrell and Vanosdol had assists.

Jennings outshot the Pirates 25-3. Mackenzie Byram recorded two saves.

The Panthers, who are seeking their first sectional title since 2003, will play in the finals at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Bulldogs upset Class 2A No. 9 East Central 2-1.

Raiders oust Eagles

INDIANAPOLIS — Class A No. 20 Indianapolis Ritter scored five times in the first half and went on to beat Brown County 6-1 in the semifinals of the Ritter Sectional.

Jori Bruner scored the goal for the Eagles (5-9-2). Skyler Fleischman played the first 68 minutes in goal and posted 15 saves, while Bailee Robison made two saves over the final 12 minutes.
