Sound of North competing at state

Columbus North High School’s Sound of North will compete for the Class A state band championship at 8:06 p.m. Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

North will be the third band to perform in Class A, which includes the largest bands in the state.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for students and preschoolers. Tickets may be purchased at North’s band office through Saturday morning, or are available at the stadium ticket windows at the northeast or southeast corners of the stadium near Capitol Avenue.

The band is planning to depart from Columbus North at about 4:45 p.m. Saturday. Class A bands begin performing at about 7:40 p.m.

This is the first time North has qualified for state since 2012. North finished eighth in the state competition in Class A during the 2012 state finals, which was the ninth time in 18 years the Sound of North advanced to the finals. Its highest finish in state competition has been seventh place, which the North band earned in 1999, 2002, 2005 and 2009.
