Harry Thomas Palmer Sr., 71, of North Vernon, passed away at 3 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2016, at his residence.

Born July 1, 1945 in Versailles, Mr. Palmer was the son of Harry George and Naomi Thomas Palmer. He married Sally Armstrong on September 25, 1970, in Madison, she survives.

Mr. Palmer was a 1964 graduate of New Marion High School and served in the U. S. Army from 1965-1966. He was a machine operator for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus for 32 years retiring in December of 2000. Mr. Palmer was a member of the North Vernon Moose Lodge, North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59, Indiana Milk Bottle Collectors and a Coach of Little League baseball for eight years. His enjoyments included collecting antiques, especially Indiana Milk Bottles, going to auctions, fishing and hunting.

Surviving with his wife, Sally Palmer are; sons, H. Tommy (Johna) Palmer Jr. and Brian L. (Taffany) Palmer, both of North Vernon; brother, LeRoy (Sue) Palmer of North Vernon; sisters, Pauline Rogers and Vadah (Scott) Hawkins, both of Madison; grandchildren, Jerod Palmer, Chasity McNicholas, Chase McNicholas, Lauren Lane, Makayla Palmer, Brianna Palmer, Bo Palmer and Luke Palmer, all of North Vernon; and great-grandchildren, Gracie Spurlock and Leah Spurlock, both of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul Palmer; and sister, Violet Palmer.

A funeral service for Mr. Palmer will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon, with the Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at the funeral home and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service Thursday. A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday by members of North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon with military graveside rites by members of Matt Hester Post#2021 V.F. W.
