Jake Schoenegge, Columbus East sophomore wrestler
Schoenegge pinned Greensburg’s Eric Lowe in 33 seconds and Seymour’s Brandon Penegar in 1:26 to win the 138-pound title and help lead the Olympians to the Jennings County Sectional title.
His performance last week: “I think I did really good, but there’s always room for improvement.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just zone everything else out and focus on my match ahead.”

FEMALE
Maddy Edds, Brown County senior basketball player
Edds posted career-highs of 37 points and 21 rebounds to lead the Eagles to an 87-82 double-overtime win at Monrovia to close the regular season.
Her performance last week: “I was very focused, knowing it was one of the last games, and during the game, the team really trusted me. I made my parents really proud that night, and that’s why I was so excited.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just put some headphones in and think about how it could potentially be my last game.”
Favorite drink: “Blue Powerade”
Favorite food: “Shrimp”
Favorite book: “The Series of Unfortunate Events”
Favorite class: “Government”
Role model: “I used to watch Whitney Williamson and Sasha Robinson play (at Brown County), and Molly Fox pushed me a lot. She was also an assistant coach, and she really molded me into the player I wanted to be. Another role model would be my parents (Eddie and Lesli Edds).”
Best advice: “From my dad, ‘Just work your hardest and be the best you can be. You never know who is watching and looking up to you.’”
Athletics goal: “To continue my basketball or softball career (in college), and to lose about 50 more pounds.”
If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Africa, because my cousin went on a mission trip, and I’ve always wanted to go to a country and help out all the little kids.”
