Jama Lois Aldred Hayes, 58, of Madison, formerly of Vevay, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at her residence in Madison. Jama was born April 7, 1958, in Milan, the daughter of James Edward Aldred, whom preceded her in death, and Lois Irene (VanTyle) Aldred-Brooks.

She was raised in Mt. Sterling, Indiana, and was a 1976 graduate of the Switzerland County High School, where she was homecoming queen. Jama was united in marriage on May 24, 1976, at the Mt. Sterling Baptist Church, to Robert Eugene “Bob” Hayes. Jama and Bob shared 38 years of marriage together. Jama was employed in the cafeteria for the Switzerland County School Corporation for six years. She was employed part-time for Lowe’s in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, for one year, and at K&C Antique Mall in Vevay. She was a Mary Kay Representative for six years and a security officer for Belterra Casino and Resort in Florence, Indiana, for 15 months. Jama was employed on March 2, 2015, as a correctional officer for the Madison Correctional Unit in Madison.

She was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Bear Branch, Indiana. Jama resided in the Madison community since Aug. 2015. She enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and raising rabbits and cats.

She is survived by her mother and step-father, Lois Irene (Jim) VanTyle Aldred-Brooks of Grammer, Indiana; sisters, Marla (Loren) Lamson of Vevay, Indiana, and Anita Sanders; companion, Dennis Catteron of North Vernon; niece and caregiver, Marlena (Donovan) Townsend of La Grange, Kentucky; daughter, Angel Lyn Hayes (James Michael) Parr of Vevay; grandchildren, Taryn Mickelle, Alyssa Nicole and Kevin Alexander Parr; great-grandchildren, James Robert Huffner and Michael Alexander Parr; her husband of 38 years, Robert Eugene “Bob” Hayes of Mt. Sterling, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father; son, James Daniel Hayes; paternal grandparents, James F. and Mae Taylor Aldred; and maternal grandparents, Lawrence Earl and Mary Eliza Sherman VanTyle.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry St., Vevay, Indiana 47043. Interment will be at Vevay Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
