David Raymond Greiwe, 67, of Columbus, passed away at 1:53 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2017, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
David retired from Cummins Engine Company after 45 years of service. He enjoyed planting trees at the home he and Judy shared for many years, and spending quality time with his grandchildren. Mr. Greiwe participated in ten half-marathons after being a three time cancer survivor. He loved walking and being outdoors. David served in the United States Coast Guard from 1967-1971. He received a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering technology from Purdue University in 1984.
Mr. Greiwe was born Aug. 13, 1949, in Greensburg, Indiana, to the late Raymond and Josephine Obermeyer Greiwe.
On June 29, 1974, he married Judith Robbins.
Survivors include his wife of over 42 years, Judy; daughters, Angela (Steven) Ginder of Greensburg and Susan (Joseph) Walker of Bloomington; grandchildren, Cole and Claire Ginder, Mary Caroline, Catherine, Nora Ray and Joseph Walker; honorary grandchildren, Maeryn and Sullivan Herrick, Kerrigan Lee, Emmary, Brighton and Harley Gurka; sisters, Betty (Ray) Sample and Janet (Doug) Einhaus; brother, Michael (Barb) Greiwe; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Jane Haley, Rosemary Collins and Partricia Lowry; and brothers, Tom and Frederick Greiwe.
A Mass Of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2017, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Andy Syberg officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greeensburg. Full military rites will be presented by the Greensburg American Legion Post #129.
