Teen dies trying to enter home through window

A 17-year-old girl died in an accident at her home near Taylorsville.

Algerine (Alie) M. Haw was pronounced dead at her home at 8:53 a.m. Wednesday, said Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting. She was a freshman at Ivy Tech Community College Columbus.

Haw died from accidental blunt force trauma to her neck, Nolting said. The time of death being listed is when Haw was found at her home, Nolting said.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Detective Chris Roberts said investigators believe Haw was attempting to go through a window in the family’s home in Heritage Heights between 11 p.m. and midnight Tuesday when the accident happened.

The large window, with double-pane glass, was not functioning properly, and the heavy window fell on Haw as she attempted to get into the home, Roberts said. A family member found her Wednesday morning and the sheriff’s department and coroner were notified then.

Investigators believe Haw had left the home without others being aware and was attempting to get back in when the accident happened, Roberts said.

Alie was a 2016 home school graduate, graduating two years early, according to her obituary. She was a member of the competition team at Sonya’s Dance Zone and a member of the Community Church of Columbus where she was active in youth group.
