Independent redistricting focus of upcoming forum
Julia Vaughn, policy director for Common Cause Indiana, will be the guest speaker at a Current Issues Forum at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bartholomew County Democratic Party headquarters, 1417 Chestnut St., Columbus.
Vaughn will be discussing the Independent Redistricting Bill proposed by Common Cause, the League of Women Voters and other organizations, which was denied a vote in committee in the Indiana Legislature this year.
Vaughn will talk about a two-year effort to establish an independent redistricting committee in Indiana and highlight other efforts around the country. She also will discuss a recent decision by the Wisconsin Supreme Court to strike down a legislative redistricting proposal that they ruled as gerrymandering, which has been appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The forum is open to the public.
