John Boles Alcorn, 76, of North Vernon, died at 5:10 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Homeview Health and Rehabilitation in Franklin.

Born May 26, 1940, in Burnside, Kentucky, Mr. Alcorn was the son of Thomas and Ora Cox Alcorn Sr. He married Judy Grabill on Dec. 22, 1962, in New Castle. She survives.

Mr. Alcorn was a 1962 graduate of Chrysler High School in New Castle and 1976 graduate of Ivy Tech with an industrial management degree. He served in the U.S. Navy, where he was in the Captains Crew from 1957–1961.

Mr. Alcorn worked for Sylvania in Seymour for seven years before retiring in 2002, and had previously worked at Atmosphere Annealing for four years and North Vernon Forge for eight years, both in North Vernon, Chrysler for 15 years in New Castle and Dallas Forge for two years in Dallas, Texas. He was a member of Church of God Columbus and American Legion Post in Seymour. Mr. Alcorn organized Jennings County Youth Soccer and the former Jennings County Youth Center, and was a former Little League Baseball Coach, Little League Basketball Coach and Little League Football Coach in New Castle. He enjoyed traveling.

Surviving with his wife, Judy Alcorn, are sons, John (Carla) Alcorn and Joey Alcorn, both of North Vernon; foster daughter, Barbara Robinson of Shelbyville; brothers, David (Susan) Alcorn of New Castle, George (Carolyn) Alcorn of Indianapolis and Eddie Alcorn of Burnside, Kentucky; grandchildren, Jonathan Alcorn of Shelbyville, Kayla Alcorn-Booker, Abby Alcorn, Julie Chatham, Mackenze Lucas, Quinlynn Alcorn, Raelynn Alcorn, Ryan Alcorn, Alex Alcorn and Taylor Alcorn, all of North Vernon; and great-grandchildren, Hayden Alcorn of Seymour, Maddilyn Alcorn, Phoenix Templeton, Skyler Templeton, Bryden Alcorn and Kolin James Alcorn, all of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jason Alcorn; brothers, James, Ted, Lester, Charles, Bill and Thomas Alcorn Jr.; and grandson, Greg Alcorn.

A military graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2017, at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison with the Rev. John Marquis officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Foundation and Jennings County Youth Soccer.
