Robert Walter Wendel, 84, of Columbus, went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, May 5, 2017.

He was born on April 21, 1933, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Walter and Marie Wendel. He attended Valparaiso University. After college Bob served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War in the Tank Company of the 19th infantry. After serving overseas, Bob returned to be a Production Control Manager, Sales Engineer and Vice President and Treasurer of the Board of Directors for Meadows Metal Products for 17 years. After his time at Meadows Metal Products, he transitioned to owning and managing his own business, A Wendel Services Co., for 33 years.

He was an active member of Waynesburg Christian Church and helped start several Christian churches. He volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader for 15 years and also was a member of the Kiwanis Board of Directors. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with his family, designing and building engines and playing chess.

Bob married Lucille Boxman on June 2, 1956. He was blessed with a loving wife for 58 years. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille, his son Steve, and his parents Walter and Marie Wendel.

Bob was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His survivors include daughter, Carol (Maurice) Jordan; son, Paul (Lisa) Wendel; grandchildren, Joshua (Suzanne) Jordan, Jason Jordan, Angela (Eric) Laginess, Kyle (Beth) Wendel, Kaitlin Wendel, Korey Wendel and Samantha Wendel; and great-grandchildren, Luke and Noah Jordan.

A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, May 12, at Waynesburg Christian Church, 10230 W. County Road 850S, Westport, IN 47283, with the Rev. David Burnett officiating. Family and friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. until the service begins.
