Deborah Ann Smith Volland passed away at the age of 59 on May 8, 2017, at her home.

Debbie was born July 27, 1957, the daughter of T. Fielding and Helen P. Smith, in Columbus, Indiana.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Columbus.

Debbie attended Indiana University and graduated from Marian University with a degree in nursing. She worked at Columbus Regional Hospital and Cummins Engine Company.

She had an amazing love for animals and was an accomplished equestrian. She was a member of the Indiana Quarter Horse Youth Team and represented Indiana at several national events with much success. She loved boating, scuba diving and camping.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Dan Wallace officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest next to her parents in Garland Brook Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday prior to the service.

She is survived by her son, Patrick Volland of Columbus; brothers, Richard F. (Leslie) Smith of Columbus, Dean W. (Claudia) Smith of New Braunfels, Texas and Donald J. (Sue) Smith of Columbus; and a sister-in-law, Patty Smith of Plainfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, David T. Smith.
