Ida Joan Ferguson, 83, of Freetown, died at 1:40 a.m. June 25, 2017, at her home.

She was a member of the Freetown United Methodist Church, where she played the piano for many years and was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group. Ida lived by the words in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” She loved music, cooking for family, reading, gardening, working in her flowers and adored her grand-dog, Willie. She graduated from Freetown High School in 1952. She worked as an executive secretary at Arvins, was a homemaker, assisted her husband at Ferguson’s Photography and then retired from the Freetown Postal Service.

Ida was born Feb. 18, 1934, in Freetown, to the late Wayne and Lora Beatson Goble. On May 29, 1954, she married Bob Ferguson in Freetown and he preceded her in death on April 10, 2004.

Survivors include her four children, Brian (Robin) Ferguson of Norman, Jaffrey Ferguson of Freetown, Juli (Dale) Sechrest of Columbus and John (Melinda) Ferguson of Freetown; six grandchildren, Jason (Tiffany) Ferguson, Scott (Meghan) Ferguson, Andrew Sechrest, Clayton, Kyle and Carson Ferguson; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Keller of Shelbyville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three sisters, Naomi Fields, Anna Mae Manuel and Ruth Reedy.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 29, at the Freetown United Methodist Church with Dave Ison officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, at the Freetown United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at the Freetown Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Freetown United Methodist Church.
