Ricky Ryan

Columbus

Ricky Dean “Rick” Ryan, 62, of W. County Road 300N, died at 9:15 p.m., June 25, 2017, at Community Health Hospital in Indianapolis.

Rick was born May 23, 1955, in Columbus, the son of Lester Eugene and Janice Luceal McPherson Ryan.

Rick was a master carpenter having built and remodeled many beautiful homes throughout his career. Nicknamed “Rocket” by many of the builders who knew him, he took great pride in hand crafting many pieces that were works of art.

Some of Rick’s projects include homes in Pintail Point at Tipton Lakes and the Northfield Condos.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to country oldies and keeping his family on their toes with his sense of humor, even during his illness.

He loved spending time with his grandson, who called him “Paky” (Papaw Ricky).

Calling will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017, at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center, San Luis Valley Health in Colorado because of Dr. Penny Cooper saving Rick’s life in 2002, giving him 15 more years with his family.

Survivors include his son, Justin (Megan) Ryan of Seymour; a daughter, Sierra (Jacob Emmons) Ryan of Chicago; sister, Mary Ann (Russel) Hollinger of Elizabethtown; and a grandson, Sawyer Dean Ryan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

You are invited to view his video tribute, light a virtual candle and send a message to the family via the internet.

Due to an error, a picture of Mr. Ryan’s son was published in the original obituary.
