Betty Jean Thompson passed away on July 14, 2017, at Mount Dora, Florida, at the age of 93. She was born on April 29, 1924, in Indianapolis, to Joseph Earl Meadows and Barbara (Mueller) Meadows. She spent most of her life in Columbus.
Betty graduated from Columbus High School in 1941 and attended Indiana University.
She was married to John M. Thompson for 38 years. She enjoyed her retirement after working as a financial bookkeeper and homemaker in her early life.
She is survived by her son, Tim (Patricia) Thompson of Leesburg, Florida; and daughters, Cathy (Jim) Gardner of Leesburg, Florida and Kimberly (Don) Imel of Royal Palm Beach, Florida; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelli Boka; an infant son, Greg; her brother, Joseph Earl Meadows Jr.; and her parents.
Betty enjoyed travel, crafts, ceramics and her family.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 21, in Section 61 at Garland Brook Cemetery with her son-in-law, the Rev. Don Imel, officiating. A time of remembrance will be held afterward at the Columbus home of Tim and Trish Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to any hospice organization.
