Learning at a higher degree: Colleges getting start on term

Local colleges are rolling out the red carpet for the start of the fall semester.

Open houses are planned at community colleges in Columbus that will feature information about degree programs, financial aid and registration.

Ivy Tech Community College, Purdue Polytechnic Columbus and IUPUC plan to begin their fall semesters Aug. 21, while Harrison College will open its fall term Sept. 25.

Here are summaries on opportunities at each.

Ivy Tech

Ivy Tech Community College, 4475 Central Ave., will conduct express enrollment days from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 3 and 5, with college staff available to help people interested in enrolling.

During express enrollment days, residents can complete the first steps to enroll as a student, get financial aid questions answered and learn about and assessment requirements. In addition, individuals can also meet with advisors, register for the semester and learn about orientation.

Individuals are encouraged to RSVP for express enrollment day by emailing Autumn Hill at Ivy Tech Columbus’ Express Enrollment Center at [email protected].

Attendees should plan on bringing high school or college transcripts, as well as SAT, ACT or PSAT scores to assist with assessment and course placement. If residents have already completed some college courses, they are encouraged to bring an official college transcript to have their credits evaluated.

Prospective students who aren’t able to attend express enrollment day can complete the enrollment process anytime and schedule an appointment by calling 812-372-9925.
