SWIMMING

Donner swimmers excel

Several Donner Swim Club athletes competed in the Central East Summer Divisional Championships earlier this month in Franklin.

Whitley Eicher finished fourth in the 15-and-over girls 200 freestyle. She also took seventh in the 100 breaststroke and 11th in the 50 freestyle.

Kara Buntin took sixth in the 10-and-under girls 50 backstroke, eighth in the 100 backstroke and 12th in the 100 freestyle. Buntin, Ainsley Sherlock, Abby Proffitt and Cora Tregoning teamed to take eighth in the 200 medley relay.

Sherlock also placed fifth in the 50 breaststroke, 11th in the 100 breaststroke and 14th in the 200 freestyle. Sherlock, Connelly Furnish, Cassidy Furnish and Buntin took ninth in the 200 freestyle relay.

Sammi Hoovler finished seventh in the 11-12 girls 50 breaststroke, ninth in the 200 freestyle and 12th in the 50 freestyle. Karissa Bevis was 12th in the 200 individual medley.

Ellie Proffitt took eighth in the 13-14 girls 50 freestyle, and Paige Maddox was 12th in the 200 breaststroke. Maddox, Ellie Proffitt, Vaikhari Nalole and Karissa Miller finished ninth in the 200 freestyle relay and 10th in the 200 medley relay.

Also competing for Donner were Jared Carroll, Matthew Goble, Lauren Mackey, Adeline Rush and Sam Russell.

CROSS-COUNTRY

Jennings wins opener

The Jennings County Middle School boys won their own invitational to begin the season. The Panthers scored 35 points to 62 for runner-up Madison.

Lane Elsner won the boys race in 12 minutes, 4 seconds for two miles. Alex Leach took seventh in 13:13, while Eli Wahlman was eighth (13:25), Ian Campbell ninth (13:58) and Dalton Fletcher 10th (14:09).

The Panther girls finished second behind Scottsburg. Katie Gasper took second in 15:04, while Mary Gasper was sixth (15:58), Taylor Leak ninth (16:32), Kelley Gasper 12th (17:08) and Lexie Giltner 17th (21:28).

Panthers top Jets

Carson McNulty and Luke Ownbey each scored two goals Thursday to lead the Jennings County Middle School coed White team to a 7-1 win at Hauser. Brea Galyen, Ian Sawyer and Brennan Haysler scored the other goals for the Panthers (2-0).

The coed White team opened its season Monday with a 4-0 victory at South Ripley. Nathan Davis, Ethan Brown, Zoey Ison and Logan McIntosh scored the goals. Cole Sigler recorded four saves, and McNulty added two.

Also Monday, the Jennings Blue team fell to Greensburg 7-0. Braden Foster posted six saves, and James McCollough added two.

VOLLEYBALL

Panthers sweep Pirates

Jennings County’s eighth-grade White team beat Greensburg 25-12, 25-9, and the seventh-grade White squad won 25-16, 9-25, 15-6 on Thursday.

Kali Thompson served seven aces, and Ruthie Bingham added five aces to lead the eighth-grade. Stella Millspaugh led the seventh-grade with seven aces.

On Tuesday, the Panthers eighth-grade White fell to St. Peter’s 25-14, 25-23, and the St. Peter’s seventh-grade won 25-18, 25-11. Kylee Boardman, Bingham and Lucy Ernstes all served three aces for the Jennings eighth-grade, and Millspaugh had two aces for the Panther seventh-grade.

Greendale tops Jennings

Jennings County Middle School fell to Greendale 32-6 on Tuesday.

The Panthers fell to 0-2.
