WESTPORT
Evelyn L. Schuyler, 91, of Westport, passed away at 4:08 a.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on November 12, 1925, in Hope, the daughter of Fielden and Irene (Cowin) Sanders.
She was born and raised in Hope and had been a Westport resident since 1987. Evelyn was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church and loved her dogs, Koko and Millie. She enjoyed collecting dolls, reading books, baking, cooking, antiquing and shopping at Goodwill.
She married James G. Schuyler on February 22, 1946, in Columbus, and he preceded her in death on May 1, 2002.
She is survived by her daughters, Dianna L. (William K.) Anderson of Springhill, Florida, and Sonia K. (Richard G.) Hurtt of Westport; sisters, Norma Jean Ray of Shelbyville and Betty Keel of Forest Hill; 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, William Ralph, Fielden Edward, Israel and Archie Sanders; sisters, Roselfa Sanders, Nellie Brown, Elizabeth Mullens, Vernice Patterson and Mary Payne; and great-granddaughter, Nadia S. Anderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Steve Pumphrey officiating. Burial will be at Westport Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Friday, September 22, 2017, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
