Police arrest driver testing at .234 percent blood-alcohol

A local man who tested with a breath alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit was arrested after police officers said they observed him driving recklessly on 25th Street.

Columbus police Sgt. Josh McCrary saw a vehicle with its tires squealing near 25th Street and Central Avenue at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

McCrary stopped the vehicle and while speaking with the driver, Trenton C. White, 28, Columbus, he detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. White failed several field sobriety tests, Harris said.

White was taken to the Columbus Police Department where he provided a breath sample of .234 percent, nearly three times the legal limit, Harris said.

White was arrested on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content greater than .15 percent, Harris said.
