A driver who attempted to flee from Columbus police officers in his vehicle was arrested after crashing into a fence in the 200 block of Patterson Drive.
Officers Drake Maddix and Travis Harbaugh were patrolling near 10th Street and Whitfield Drive at 6:30 p.m. Friday when they saw a red truck without a license plate, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
When the officers attempted to stop the truck, the driver, later identified as Shawn J. Tatman, 41, Columbus, refused to pull over, Harris said. Tatman continued driving south on U.S. 31 near Jewell Village at speeds of about 80 miles per hour. After losing control of the truck and crashing into a fence, Tatman was found hiding under a bush a short distance away, Harris said.
Officers used a stun gun to take him into custody when he refused to show the officers his hands which were concealed under his body, Harris said.
Officers found methamphetamine where Tatman had been on the ground as well as more of the drug in his clothing, Harris said.
Tatman was arrested on preliminary charges of felony possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, felony resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and an out-of-county warrant, Harris said.
