COLUMBUS

Ruth Louise Davee, 89, of Columbus, passed away December 13, 2017. The daughter of Howard & Mary Childs of Jennings County, Ruth graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Home Economics. While at Purdue, Ruth met Charles Davee, of Mooresville. They married in 1950 while Ruth was teaching in Hayden and Charles was serving abroad in the U.S. Army. Together they moved to Columbus in 1957, where they raised three children while Ruth worked as a school nutritionist and home economics teacher.

Ruth was active in her community and church, serving as director of the Indiana State Fair School for Girls, president of Psi Iota Xi philanthropic sorority, and elder and deacon of North Christian Church. Ruth was also active in local garden clubs, bridge groups, knitting clubs, and other community activities. Her love for travel took her around the world. She also loved hosting friends and family for wonderful gatherings at their home on Grandview Lake.

Ruth is survived by Janie Davee & Walt Knaepple of Columbus, Carol & David Highsmith of Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Bob & Pam Davee of Portland, Oregon. She took great delight in her six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and extended family.

Following burial in Scipio, Ruth’s memorial service will be held in the chapel at Four Seasons Retirement Center, 1901 Taylor Road, at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21. Friends and family are invited to a reception in the Four Seasons dining area following the service.
