COLUMBUS
Lura E. “Granny” Burris, 81, of Columbus, peacefully passed away at 5:31 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at her home surrounded by family.
Mrs. Burris was born August 5, 1936, in Columbus, the daughter of Robert and Betty Taylor Giles.
Survivors include her children, Deborah Owens of Hope, Roger “Pete” Burris of Columbus; grandchildren, Dan Fleener, David (Becky) Fleener, Kelby (Elizabeth) Owens and Darby Owens; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Alice Perkins of Washington, Indiana, Robert (Tina) Giles of Columbus, Roger Giles of Scipio, Charles Giles, Margie Giles and Loretta (Eddie) Davis, all of Columbus, Vanessa Giles of Fairmount, Sherry Sanders of Columbus; companion, Robert Dewitt of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Garvis Burris in 1994; and brothers, Hubert and Ronald Giles.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Messiah Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Whited officiating. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the church. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
