Gertrude J. Calli

Gertrude “Trudy” Joan (Buck) Calli joined our Lord in heaven at 10:25 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Carmel Care Health and Living Community.

Born March 1, 1935, in Pontiac, Illinois, she was the only child of Walter and Mildred (Curry) Buck, who loved her deeply and dearly.

Trudy was a 1953 graduate of North Vernon High School, where she was a varsity cheerleader.

She majored in voice at Indiana University and was a member of the Indiana University Bells.

Music was a recurring theme throughout her life. She was an accomplished pianist/singer and performed at venues such as Ayres Tea Room and The Columbus Holiday Inn. She taught music therapy at Muscatatuck State Development Center.

She also gave many impromptu concerts for friends and family.

A woman of style, she also owned and operated the Chic Beauty Salon in North Vernon for several years.

Trudy is survived by her daughter, Kim (Calli) LaSalle-Hiatt of Fishers; her granddaughter, Lauren LaSalle of St. Louis, Missouri; her son-in-law, John Hiatt of Fishers; her soon-to-be-grandson, Bryan Lindhorst of St. Louis and his daughter, Kennedy. Also surviving are Kim’s siblings Angie (Casto) Fernandez; Macie (Dave) Martin; Gega (Tony) Sharp; Jenny (Steve) Martin and Rocco (Sarah) Calli; and Lauren’s siblings, Kari Taheny Kennedy and Lissy LaSalle. Trudy is also survived by her step-grandchildren: John Hiatt II (Caroline) of Indianapolis; Shane Hiatt (Sara) of Louisville; and Brad Hiatt, currently in Denver. She adored Cece, John, Vivi, Charlotte, Kennedy, Elliot, Lennox and Harrison.

Trudy had a big, extended family: the Adamars, Barnets, Becketts, Browns, Callis, Craddocks, Currys, Ezzos, Hiatt’s, Hopps, LaSalles, LaMothes, Mills, Rollins and others.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving aunts, uncles and cousins; and her former husbands, Sam Calli and Greg Barnet.

We will celebrate her life Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation is from 1 to 3 p.m. The memorial service is at 3 p.m.
