County man found dead in home; cause of death unknown

An investigation into the death of a local Marine veteran who worked as a supervisor at NTN Driveshaft is being supervised by the Indiana State Police.

Dale Pattingill, 40, was found unresponsive inside his residence at 5670 E. County Road 700N, south of St. Louis Crossing, in northern Bartholomew County, Indiana State Police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Wheeles said.

Pattingill was discovered by a relative who called 911 at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Wheeles said.

Deputies from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department and crews from the Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Medical Services and Clifford Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call, according to Bartholomew County 911 records.

Pattingill was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:49 a.m. by the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office, Coroner Clayton Nolting said.

Deputies requested that state troopers take over the investigation when they realized the victim was related to two sheriff’s department employees, Sheriff Matt Myers said.

The investigation is ongoing to determine a cause of death, with toxicology results pending, Wheeles said.

Foul play is not suspected, he said.

Pattingill graduated in 1996 from Columbus North High School, according to his obituary. A member of The Ridge church, Pattingill was also active in coaching his children in sports, the obituary said.

A funeral service is planned at 10 a.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, Washington Street.
