Retired teachers volunteer almost 34,000 hours

The Bartholomew Area Retired Teachers Association, a group of 330 retired teachers, performed 33,772 hours of service to the community in 2017. Of these, 26,164.75 hours were dedicated to helping youth. Other hours were given to area agencies, churches and private individuals.

Donna Browne was named BARTA’s Volunteer of the Year, and was nominated to the Indiana Retired Teachers Association as Volunteer of the Year.

The first meeting of 2018 for BARTA is 11:15 a.m. March 6 at Sandy Hook Church, 1610 Taylor Road. The speaker will be Rebecca Walsh, Columbus Regional Hospital volunteer coordinator.
