North Vernon teen arrested on preliminary charge of dealing in marijuana

NORTH VERNON — North Vernon police officers arrested a local teen on drug-related charges after a traffic stop.

Officer Kyle Hall was on patrol when he stopped Todd Madden II, 18, North Vernon on South State Street for speeding on Saturday, said Sgt. Andrew Richmond, North Vernon Police Department spokesman.

Hall noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, Richmond said. When the vehicle was searched, officers found 154 grams of marijuana in multiple packages, digital scales and a hollowed-out book with a hiding place in the center, Richmond said.

Madden told officers he had been smoking marijuana earlier in the day, Richmond said.

Madden was arrested on preliminary charges of dealing in marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, Richmond said. He was being held at the Jennings County Jail on $605 bond, jail officials said.
