Hauser opens with tri-meet victories

HOPE — The Hauser boys and girls track teams opened the season by sweeping a tri meet Monday.

The Jets won the boys meet with 67 points to 52 for Trinity Lutheran and 27 for Crothersville. Hauser’s girls scored 75 points to 32 for Crothersville and 26 for Trinity.

John Bragg won the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches) and long jump (18-9½), Joe Sweet took the 110-meter hurdles (19.1 seconds) and 300 hurdles (48.0) and David Seelye captured the 1,600 (5:15) and 3,200 (11:46) to lead the Jet boys. Eugene Wangila won the 400 (59.3).

Trinity’s Reid Kruse won the 100 (12.3), A.J. Goecker took the 800 (2:13.1) and Tyler Goecker captured the 200 (25.2). The Cougars won the 4×800 (9:45) and 4×400 (4:01.0) relays.

Grace Hasler led the Hauser girls with wins in the 100 hurdles (17.3) and 300 hurdles (49.8). Other Jet wins came from Ashley Chambers in the high jump (4-4), Mel Hasler in the long jump (15-0), Adonah Riddle in the shot put (29-6), Grace Isley in the 100 (14.1), Marnie Schwarzkopf in the 800 (2:44) and Tammy Essex in the 3,200 (17:21). Hauser also swept the 4×800 (12:39), 4×100 (54.6) and 4×400 (4:53) relays.

Hannah Sabotin led Trinity with wins in the 400 (1:09) and 200 (31.1). Rachel Onken took the discus (90-5).

Trinity tops Orleans

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran opened the season with a 5-3 win against Orleans.

Savannah Harweger had two hits, and Jaryn Holtsclaw had a home run an two RBIs for the Cougars. Hannah Deaton and Morgan Gabbard combined on a four-hitter.
