Ivy Tech to host AFA CyberCamp

Ivy Tech Community College in Columbus has been selected to participate in the 2018 Air Force Association’s CyberCamp Program this summer.

The camp will be held June 11 through 15 and be taught by Pam Schemtz, associate professor from Ivy Tech’s School of Computing and Informatics. As a host, Ivy Tech will receive software and a hands-on curriculum kit designed to teach students about cybersecurity and other related topics.

The camp will end with a competition where campers are tasked with finding finding and addressing cybernetics flaws in simulated network environments.

In addition to hosting the summer camp, Ivy Tech will mentor local middle and high school teams in the CyberPatriot National Youth Cyber Defense Competition this fall.

The AFA Cybercamp is open to students between the ages of 12 and 18 and is being offered at no cost. Enrollment is open until May 31.

To sign up, email Pam Schmalz at [email protected] with the participant’s name, age, contact phone number and email address.
