Prosecutor granted 72-hour hold in apartment shooting case

Bartholomew County Prosecutor Bill Nash has requested an additional 72-hour hold on a local man arrested and jailed after a shooting Sunday in an apartment on Columbus’ east side.

John I. Cornett, 34, of 1085 Robert Drive – 2D, had been held in the Bartholomew County Jail with no bond since the incident, on a preliminary felony charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, Columbus police said.

While the 72-hour hold has been granted, jail officials said a bond for Cornett has been set at $500,000 surety, or 10 percent cash of that amount and that Cornett would be allowed to bond out for that amount.

Cornett is accused of shooting Joshua L. Music, 32, Edinburgh, multiple times in an incident reported at 2:22 p.m. Sunday at Cornett’s apartment, which is part of the Quail Run Apartment complex, police said.

Music was listed in critical condition Wednesday at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
