Two arrested on drug charges after traffic stop

Columbus police arrested two people on drug-related charges after narcotics and drug paraphernalia were located in a vehicle after a traffic stop.

Shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday, officers stopped a vehicle near 11th and Chestnut streets after observing a minor traffic violation, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The officers spoke to the driver, Aaron L. Gray, 36, of Greensburg, as well as a passenger, Jessica L. Patterson, of Seymour.

A short time later, a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department canine alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle, Harris said. During a search, officers found syringes, drug scales and methamphetamine in the vehicle, he said.

Gray was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held without bond in the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.

Patterson was arrested on a preliminary charge of possession of a legend drug -injection device. She was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $57,500 bond, jail officials said.
