4 arrests on drug charges: Investigation focuses on Vine Street home

An investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine from a Columbus residence led to the arrest of four people.

The Bartholomew County Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team’s investigation focused on a home in the 5000 block of South Vine Street in Columbus.

At about 5:10 p.m. Thursday, JNET asked the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department for assistance with a traffic stop. A K-9 unit conducted a search on a vehicle driven by Jami D. Hupp, 30, of 5042 Willa Way in Columbus, when the police dog alerted to narcotics inside the vehicle. A small child was also in the vehicle, said Judy Jackson, spokesperson for the sheriff’s department.

JNET linked the drugs in Hupp’s vehicle to the home on South Vine Street, and JNET secured a search warrant. Three male subjects were subsequently arrested.

Michael K. Thompson, 49, of 5083 S. Vine St., was arrested on preliminary charges of:

Theft — receiving stolen property (two counts)

Possession of marijuana

Possession of paraphernalia

Maintaining a common nuisance

Bartholomew County warrant

Thompson was released on $41,000 bond, according to Bartholomew County Jail records.

Ashley D. Synder, 36, of 8937 Friendship Drive in Taylorsville, was arrested on preliminary charges of:

Possession of marijuana

Possession of paraphernalia

Maintaining a common nuisance

Snyder was released on $13,500 bond, according to jail records.

Aaron S. Allman, 47, of 2629 17th St. in Columbus, was arrested on preliminary charges of visiting a common nuisance and a body attachment. Allman remains in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $5,500 bond.

Hupp was arrested on preliminary charges of:

Neglect of a dependent

Possession of a controlled substance

Possession of heroin

Possession of methamphetamine

Possession of marijuana

Possession of paraphernalia

Hupp was released on $135,000 bond, according to jail records.

The JNET is a combined unit of the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, the Columbus Police Department and the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office, and targets the manufacturing and abuse of illegal drugs in the city and county.
