An Edinburgh man is in the Bartholomew County Jail after he was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop.
David M. Burton, 53, was arrested on preliminary charges of:
- Possession of methamphetamine between 5 and 10 grams (Level 5 Felony)
- Possession of marijuana with a prior conviction (Class A misdemeanor)
- Driving while suspended (Class A misdemeanor)
He is being held in lieu of $75,000 bond, according to jail officials in Columbus.
Columbus Police Department officer Drake Maddix observed that Burton failed to signal a turn on his motorcycle at about 11:10 p.m. Sunday near the Cambridge Square Apartments. Maddix attempted to stop Burton, who continued traveling around the apartment’s parking lot and dropped a small item to the pavement prior to stopping, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
A short time later, Maddix confirmed that Burton’s driver’s license was suspended, and he took Burton into custody, Harris said.
While searching Burton, Maddix allegedly located a small bag of marijuana in Burton’s coat pocket. Maddix then checked on the item that Burton dropped in the parking lot and determined that it was methamphetamine, Harris said.
